Spring 2018
Dear Class of ’95,
We hope everyone is doing well – good jobs, healthy families and even spoiled pets. Winter is winding its way down here in Wisconsin. There’s always that excitement when you see your first robin of the year, and you know the long winter is almost over.
The Ripon College fiscal year is also winding its way down. We would like to encourage our classmates to give generously. The Annual Fund is what keeps the College running. Without alumni donations, our alma mater would literally not be able to sustain its day-to-day operations. No amount is too small. What matters is participation percentage. Please remember to make your donation before June 30.
We don’t have any specific class news to share. I think we take it for granted that many of us are connected on Facebook and pretty much know each others’ business 24/7/365! If you do have any news you’d like us to share in these class letters, please reach out to Vince, Angela or me any time. We’d love to hear from you!
We hope everyone has a great summer and we’ll talk to you again in the fall!

Happy Fall Class of 1996!
Can you believe that 2019 is right around the corner? Summer seems to be gone in a blink of a second now a days, as it does every year. I hope that everyone had a great past couple months, being able to spend some time outdoors enjoying the sun and warmth. The year isn’t even over and I can tell you that 2018 has been a year of highs and lows for me. But some of the highs I know for me is being able to see and spend quality time with old friends, particularly ones from Ripon College. And I have had that privilege a few times these past couple months.
A few months ago four of us from Ripon spent a weekend in New York City (LORI BERGERON ’95, SHEA HARDY ’95, and RYAN COX ’95). We attempted to live like we were still were in college, which at our age CLEARLY doesn’t work.
Around that time I had the opportunity to have a wonderful night of dinner and drinks in NYC with AMY TINCHER-DURIK ’96 (not the best selfie out there, so I apologize in advance). And when I was in Wisconsin at the beginning of summer for a bit, I had the fortune to spend time with these lovely characters from our class (KYRSTEN KOEBACH ’96, JOAN GRZESINSKI ’96, KIM PHU ’96). True friends are hard to come by but I can say they are there when you really need them.
In June I ran in the Seattle Rock and Roll ½ Marathon, raising money for the SYTA Youth Foundation which benefits children who cannot afford to travel, a cause that is super close to my heart. After the race I got to unwind and recuperate (in wine country) with KENDRA TRIPP ’96.
Those were my adventures. Now all of you, please keep us all posted on things that are happening, whether a brief update to the college or posting updates/pictures on Facebook, Instagram, or any of the social media outlets there. It is wonderful to keep track of each other and their lives even though we might not see each other on a regular basis.
Regards,

Spring 2018
Happy Spring Class of 1996!
If you are like me, you are glad to see an end of this winter and all of the wicked weather most of us have been bombarded with, especially late in the season. I hope this doesn’t mean we have to suffer through an unbearable summer (fingers crossed).
As I am traveling throughout the world, I do think to myself I am very grateful for where I am. And I know that I wouldn’t be where I am at without the experience at Ripon College. The years we all spent there helped use build the foundation of who we are today. I do hope you keep the same way. Please go out and support Ripon College, not meaning only in donating back to the college but also always promoting and recommending the College to friends and family. Go back to campus and reflect on all those experiences and see all the amazing changes.
Lastly, please keep us all posted on things that are happening, whether a brief update to the college or posting several pictures on Facebook, Instagram or any of the social media outlets there are now a days. It is wonderful to keep track of each other and their lives even though we might not see each other on a regular basis.
Here is to a great summer!!!

Spring 2018
Hello Class of 1997,
I hope this newsletter finds all of you well and enjoying the start to 2018.
Great things are happening on the Ripon College campus since our last class letter. Of note, the Willmore Center opened in August 2017 after a $22 million renovation and expansion. Willmore Center is the main health and wellness facility on campus and houses the athletics and exercise science departments and is named for alumna and Honorary Life Trustee DENA G. WILLMORE ’67.
Mark your calendars and save the date! The 2018 Alumni Weekend will be held June 21-24. While it is not a reunion year for our class, I encourage you to visit and see the changes on campus and in town. It is a great opportunity to connect with alumni, faculty, and staff. For more information, go to http://www.ripon.edu/alumni-weekend/.
Don’t forget to send along any news or updates to your contact information. You can also connect with our class on Facebook via the closed group “Ripon College Class of 1997.”
Wishing you a wonderful spring and summer!

Dear Class of 1998,
TWENTY YEARS, friends. Hard to believe it. For many of us, this reunion was our first time on campus in quite a while, and as usual, there were plenty of familiar sights and plenty of changes. Most remarkable were the renovations to Storzer, now known as Willmore Center. It’s a fantastic new space and a great investment by the college.
While the physical changes to the campus are always startling, the main takeaways from Alumni Weekend are all about the people. These moments of connection (not only with our classmates, but fellow alumni, faculty, and staff) remind us that while we might “see” each other often on social media, there is no substitute for connecting in person. On that note, big thanks again to our reunion coordinators, DJ CURRAN ’98 and JULIANNA TAMRAZ CIMAGLIO ’98. And thanks also to everyone who attended: CHRISTOPHER ABICHANDANI ’98, MELANIE ROMME BEAHM ’98, JOSHUA BOHNEN ’98, AARON BENNETT ’98, JENNIFER ANSTEE CHAVEZ ’98, JULIANNA TAMRAZ CIMAGLIO ’98, DJ CURRAN ’98, BRIAN DESPLAINES ’98 (and Michelle), KRISTIN DODDS ’98, TREVOR DURHAM ’98, SARAH ENG ’98, BETSY GARDNER ’98 (and Jamie Dobbs), RYAN GRUBBS ’98, AMY FREITAG GRZYB ’98, NICKI HALPERIN HANSON ’98, SIRRY INSY ’98, STEPHEN KENNELLY ’98 (and EMILY MEYER ’09), AARON KOEHN ’98, KHAM KONGRATSASY ’98 (and AMY DAVENPORT KONGRATSASY ’96), LISA KRAUS ’98, MICHELLE TOUTLOFF MARTIN ’98 (and STEVE MARTIN ’96), LYNNE PHILLIPS ’98, JOSH SATZER ’98, IAN STEPLETON ’98 (and MIRA RABACAL STEPLETON ’00), SARA TINER ’98, and STEVE WIECHMANN ’98. Class of 1999,
This is your fall letter from Trista and me, but it is being written in June! Ripon College just celebrated the graduation of the Class of 2018 on a lovely spring day at campus. The keynote speaker was Judy Woodruff. The photos from commencement bring back many fond memories.
If any of you haven’t checked out www.ripon.edu lately, we encourage you to do so. The campus flyover footage is pretty cool. The website looks better than ever and judging by some of the statistics regarding student satisfaction, financial aid, medical school placement and job/graduate school placement is it clear that Ripon continues to be an alma mater we can all be proud to have attended. It won’t be too long and some of us might even have some kids in those dorms we used to call home.
The fundraising campaign will kick off again this fall, but giving is easy all year long from the website. Please contribute if you can.
Please mark your calendars now for our 20th Reunion, next summer, June 27-30, 2019. More details about Alumni Weekend 2019 and our reunion celebration coming soon! If you’re interested in volunteering to help make the weekend a success, please let us know or contact the Office of Constituent Engagement, [email protected].
Signed,
MIKE and TRISTA

Spring 2018
Happy April,
It’s been a cold winter this year in Wisconsin with very little snow! Those of us in Wisconsin can’t wait for warmer weather and for spring to come. It was a tough year for the Green Bay Packers but there is always next year!
It’s hard to believe that it will soon be 20 years since we graduated from Ripon College. So much has changed over the past 20 years. Twenty years ago, very few people had cell phones. Now, we can’t seem to live without them. Back then, Starbucks sold their first Frappuccino, ebay made its online debut and OJ Simpson was found not guilty of murder! Boy does time fly!
As most of us are now in our 40’s, it’s important to remember how important Ripon was to all of our lives. Some of us met lifelong friends; some of us met our lifelong partner. I’m sure everyone can remember a positive encounter with a professor or college staff. Whatever your experience, it is important to keep in mind the financial health of the college. If you are able, please consider giving back to Ripon as the college counts on our assistance to maintain the level of excellence it provides.
In closing, I hope you all had a fabulous 2017 and wish you all luck in 2018. Please remember to keep sending us your updates so that we can include them in the class notes.
Have a great summer!

Chances are, some of them are Ripon-related! We love hearing about all the amazing things happening in your lives so please continue to share them with us. Having been on second shift for the last 11 years, (and very much a night person) being to work at 5am has been interesting. Also, I am a proud Auntie of five siblings, ages 2 to 11.”

Greetings Class of ’04,
Back in June, at the last minute, I had the opportunity to swing by campus for the annual Alumni Weekend. I made it for just the Saturday evening festivities, and I’m glad I did! It had been a few years since I’d been on campus and it was great to reconnect with old friends from the ’03 class as they were celebrating their 15 year reunion. Especially interesting was the number of alumni there not just celebrating a milestone year. Made for some fun conversations! Miller’s was packed, as usual, but there’s a lot more to the town, and campus, than you might remember.
You’ll see below that there aren’t many updates this time around. A special nod of congrats to Kristen on her accomplishment, and not just because it’s the only update! 😉
In light of the limited updates, consider this Class Letter your Save-The-Date for our 15th year reunion next summer, June 27-30, 2019. Please consider attending; it is a special milestone. Do yourself the favor of getting a classmate or two to commit to coming as well and you’ll be sure to have a great time. I look forward to catching up then, if not sooner.
As always, thanks for taking the time to read. Be sure to pass along any of your updates to [email protected]. And don’t forget to mark your calendar for our 15 year class reunion in June of 2019.

Greetings Class of ’04,
Perspective is a powerful thing. It’s something that can be hard to find, and oftentimes the valuable kind takes years to develop. But every now and then life throws you a curve ball that provides you the perspective necessary to truly appreciate what you’ve got. This will present itself in unique ways to all of us, but regardless of how you find it, be sure to embrace it; the good, the bad, and everything in between. Our class update this time is much the same; some good, some bad, and some in between.
Thanks for taking the time to read. Be sure to pass along your perspective to [email protected] so your classmates can best appreciate the path we are all heading down. And don’t forget to mark your calendar for our 15 year class reunion in late June of 2019.

Hello Class of 2005!
I write this as I am enjoying my 13th summer break. 13 years as a teacher means 13 years since we left the Ripon classrooms behind.
This summer I am splitting my time between enjoying all that summer has to offer with my son and daughter (8 and 5) and preparing to start a new school year in a new district. I am excited to be moving to a teaching position at South Milwaukee High School.
This time around we are very light on updates, so please send us whatever updates you’d like to share either by e-mail or in our Facebook group.
TERI SOLARZ HATFIELD ’05 and MICHAEL HATFIELD ’05: are still living in Lombard, Illinois with their two littles, ages 7 and 3. Teri is working on becoming a birth doula in her area and expects to be fully certified by the end of the year. It has been a wonderful experience! They are hoping that our classmates are enjoying the summer!
I hope to hear from even more of you in the next round of update requests.
Have a great summer!

Greetings Ripon College Class of 2005!
I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since I last wrote you all! Life is pretty normal- trying to get the oldest to school on time each day, working, getting supper/homework/baths in, bedtime routine and a little quiet time for me and then off to do it all again the next day. I do have to admit with two young kids at home (now 6 and 2) I was struggling a bit to find a balance in my life that allowed me to be a mom, wife, employee AND just plain old me. The biggest problem was I hadn’t yet figured out that what I was “missing” in my life was me! I had an opportunity to help a friend earn an incentive with her direct sales company, Thirty-One Gifts,- so I joined in April! I was only going to sell for a month or two then be done, but what I found was myself! Now I get time for me to be me and a chance to make some extra cash for the family. Turns out I really like sales, connecting with other women and the company I work for is pretty darn amazing. It’s also forced me to join Facebook, so look me up (Amanda Przybyl), and let’s be friends! I hope this letter finds you striving to be the best version of you and reaching your goals.
I’m still at Ripon, running the Mail Center and enjoying connecting with students. Early fall we just completed the massive overhaul of our athletic facility, now call The Willmore (and yes, I still call it Storzer when I’m in a hurry and forget), a re-do of Demmer (goodbye orange chairs) and all those little here and there projects that make life better/more colorful. Even with the changes that are ever a part of the culture, there are many things that remain the same- the faculty and staff still care about each and every single student and work hard each day to make their experience a true “Ripon” experience; the students still complain about the food and housing and they certainly don’t realize how good they have it compared to when we were here; but most importantly is that the students are always striving to do more, be more and learn more. I’m so grateful that we’re able to attract and retain students that make me proud to say I work at Ripon College!
Here is what is going on with your classmates:
MICHELLE COOK ERICKSON ’05– “We welcomed our 3rd child, Axton James Cook on February 15. His big sister Lorelai and big brother Ryker are very excited to have another brother.”
SHELBY DEERNING ’05 writes that she- “Continues her work as a journalist, specializing in lifestyle writing for national publications that include Architectural Digest, USA Today, The Cottage Journal, and Prevention. In late 2017, she was accepted into the ASJA (the American Society of Journalists and Authors), and when she’s not writing, you’ll find her going for her beloved runs or frequenting flea markets.”
BJ DERNBACH ’05 writes that he-“was recently appointed to serve as the Assistant Deputy Secretary for the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. In this new role, he will be working closely on development of policy and communications for the Department.”
CADY SINWELL GERLACH ’05 writes that- “PETER GERLACH ’02 is the Director of International Affairs at Coe College, and I am still practicing law at Meardon, Sueppel & Downer in Iowa City, Iowa. We have to great little boys, Max (8 months) and Leo (almost 2). We’re busy and happy – looking for a new adventure soon!”
JUANITA BAATZ GUTBROD ’05 of Sussex, Wisconsin, writes that she is “working at St. Bruno as the 3 & 4 year old academic Kindergarten teacher and also, helping her husband with Arcadeaholics LLC Cosmotrons’ arcade development and sales.”
CHARLES JOHNSON ’05 writes that he is- “Currently still living in Minneapolis, Minnesota. My daughter, Charli, is now 3, and we have a mini Juliana piglet named Cami that is now part of the family. For business I have since simplified a few things. I unloaded 8 properties with the increase in values, and sold my fitness franchise as well. Currently, I manage 5 properties that I also own, and am also a 50/50 partner is a car dealership specializing in subprime in-house financing as well! We hope everyone is well!”
ZIAD KHAN ’05– “Vincent (my dog) and I moved to Boston in February 2017 from Fort Myers, Florida. I moved because of a new job I accepted with J.Jill Inc. as a software development Manager.”
AMANDA GUAY KREJCAREK ’05– “Gene and I are looking forward to welcoming our second child, a boy, in June. Gracelyn is very excited to be a big sister!”
JOE LAEDTKE ’05– “In the spring of 2017, Edible Milwaukee was sold and my time as an Art Director ended. Since then, I did some commercial work for Aiwa speakers and Outpost Natural Foods Co-op here in the Milwaukee area, as well as making an appearance as a judge on the Big Bad BBQ Brawl on the Cooking Channel. In January 2018, I accepted a position at the Prasser Kleczka Funeral Home, continuing my 11 year career as a funeral director.”
PAUL LARSON ’05 wrote- “I got promoted to associate professor of economics and wrote a new certificate program in data literacy. Kids, Parker (5 in May) and Tanner (3 in May) shape a lot of my free time, so I’ve explored new hobbies that I can do whenever time is available. I’m currently building some furniture in my garage. Plans are still on track to move to Wisconsin in the summer of 2019.”
BRANDON MUMM ’05 writes- “I’m now a Commercial Financial Analyst for Alliance Laundry Systems and a State Certified Firefighter for the Ripon Area Fire District. When I’m not financing laundry equipment or fighting fires, I spend my free time with my wife, PAM SCHUMACHER MUMM ‘08 and children, Allison (4) and Charlie (2).”
PAUL NEUBERGER ’05 writes- “On December 1, I became President of the Starr Group, one of the largest independent insurance agencies in the state of Wisconsin. Located in Greenfield, we specialize in insurance and risk solutions, including Personal Lines, Commercial Lines and Group Benefits. The company has nearly 50 total employees between Wisconsin and Nebraska. Additionally, I continue to be CEO of the sales consultancy that I founded, The Cold Call Coach. Although the amount of new clients I have taken on has decreased due to my new role with The Starr Group, I am still working with a handful of clients, giving speeches, and motivating sales professionals all across the country, especially with my online and virtual platforms. On the personal front, my wife, Tanya, and I just celebrated seven years of marriage and welcomed our daughter, Reagan, into the world on June 6. She joins older brothers Kennedy (5) and Hudson (3). Life is good on this end and I pray it is for all of you, as well!”
RENEA VORPAHL ’05– “We are enjoying spending time as a family of 4. Our daughter, Georgia recently turned 3 and trying to take on the world and our patience. Sterling is almost 1 and trying to conquer walking. I was recently promoted to Senior Field Claims Representative at ACUITY, a mutual insurance company, and enjoy helping people recover from some of their toughest moments. We adopted our dog, Sergeant Queso, in September, and he has been an amazing addition to our family.”
Everyone else- Please, please, please send an e-mail, text or call me and let me know how you’re doing and what you’ve been up to. I’d also love to get an updated address or e-mail address from you so Ripon can get you all the important Ripon mailings (like this class letter!).
A few more thoughts from me: Do you have any concept of how much money 2.2 million dollars is? I sure don’t BUT what I do know is that’s what the College’s budget says we need to keep educating students. Do you know how hard it is to raise 2.2 million dollars? I sure don’t, BUT I know that every penny counts. So send your pennies (and a few dollars too) to Ripon College, via debit/credit card here http://www.ripon.edu/give/ or send your check to Ripon College Annual Fund, 300 W Seward St, Ripon WI 54971.
One other thing- Where would you be without your Ripon education? I bet in a very different place then you are now. Think about that and talk about Ripon to every single person you meet. You never know if that person’s niece, grandson, daughter, neighbor, etc. is in the college search process. Make sure they have Ripon College on their list as a place to visit, and then see if you can find a few minutes to get back to campus yourself. I’ll gladly give you a tour, and we can do lunch!
All the best!

Amanda (Zahn) Przybyl

Greetings, Class of 2006!
In our last note—which you should have received by email in early April (if not, let us know so we can confirm your email address)—we shared information about the College’s then-upcoming #OneDayRally that was to take place April 25.
For 18 hours and 51 minutes (a nod to the year Ripon was founded), the College, alumni, and supporters rallied together to encourage gifts of any amount from a goal of 425 donors. We’re happy to share that the goal was SMASHED, with the campaign reaching 940 donors and raising $656,626!
Our own class was well-represented. A huge thank you to those of you who helped put our class into 4th place in terms of number of donors. We collectively contributed more than $2,100. It’s fantastic to see our class so engaged in supporting the mission of the College.
And, with that, let’s move on to some news and updates from our class:
MICHELE BERGMAN ’06 of Madison, Wisconsin, married Max Lamberg in November. Wedding guests included KRISTI BRAUND ATTWOOD ’02 and ANDY ATTWOOD ’02, CRAIG SAUER ’05, PHIL BUTCHER ’04, SHANE EBEL ’07 and ROSE MCNULTY EBEL ’06 with daughter Lucette (Class of 2038, hopefully!), ANDREW KITSLAAR ’06, TOMISSA PORATH ’10, ALISHA GARD ’06, JONNY GAUSEWITZ ’06, ELIZABETH MILLER BENNETT ’06, MICHELLE CALDER REPPERT ’06, DAVE BADE ’03, HAYLEY DOYLE ’06, MATTHEW NICOLAI ’06, Beth Byrnes, and TYLER BYRNES ’04, and EMMY GIOVANNI ’06. Shane Ebel was the officiant, Rose was Michele’s attendant, Emmy was a bridesmaid, and Lucette was the ring bearer.
STEPHANIE CHACHARON ’06 of Seattle, Washington, and husband, Adam, welcomed their second son, Luke Murphy, on April 4. His big brother Levi, 4, is very excited to show his brother the world of cranes, tractors, and bikes. Stephanie soaked up several months of maternity leave before returning to her role as marketing director for Fitcode, a fashion data startup.
JEN MILLEN EVEN ’06 of Dubuque, Iowa, is putting a lot of miles into her running shoes. She even completed a 50-mile race.
ED HANSEN ’06 of Tallahassee, Florida, taught a 4-week course in London during the summer through Florida State University’s International Programs department. The course focused on applied social psychology and explored various aspects of identity (social, gender, cultural, etc.).
VICTOR MAGNUS ’06 of Wautoma, Wisconsin, writes, “2017 was a crazy year of change. It included selling our first home and being homeless for 8 months (lived with the in-laws)! JACKI WEISS MAGNUS ’05 had a job change, I was promoted in the national guard to First Sergeant and now I am responsible for over 100 soldiers. We eventually found a new home and moved in early December. I made a job change and started my own insurance agency for Rural Mutual Insurance one week after buying our new home. Our son Urijah, 9, made it to youth state for wrestling last year and came up short this year. Our beautiful daughter will be 5 in July of 2018 and we will subsequently celebrate our 14th anniversary on Kinzley’s birthday.”
ANDREW PHAM ’06 of Spokane, Washington, continues to work for Shell and reached 10 years with the company in July.

Spring 2018
Hello, Red Hawk alumni of 2006!
If all has gone according to plan, you are reading this letter on your computer, tablet, or phone. That’s right. We’ve (finally) gone digital! Between social media, emails, and text messages, keeping in touch after college has never been easier, but, of course, that doesn’t mean we’re always good at remembering to do it. There is an exciting event coming up, however, that is a great opportunity to use this technology to help our alma mater.
Keep an eye on your social media platforms between 5:09am and midnight (1851 minutes) on Wednesday, April 25, as Ripon College is planning a very special #OneDayRally! Various events and social media promotions are planned throughout the day to get everyone excited to #rally together to show support for our Red Hawks. The college has a goal of reaching 425 donors (on 4/25), and it would be great if the Class of 2006 can #rally together to help make this effort a successful one. Even if you have already donated this year though, you can still help the cause! Ripon is recruiting “Social Media Ambassadors” to help spread the word, so if you’re interested, please contact one of us so that we can help you get involved.
Even after April 25, we hope everyone will continue to stay connected by letting us know what’s going on in your lives, and, if you’re tiring of socializing electronically, maybe we’ll even see you (in person) at Alumni Weekend, June 21-24! In the meantime, here are our class updates:
