Solo Exhibition by Lisa Marie Barber
March 31st 7:00 pm - May 2nd 5:00 pm @ C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts: Caestecker Gallery
Lisa Marie Barber is a full Professor in the Department of Art and Design at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside where she teaches ceramics, art foundations, and studio seminars; Lisa also serves as Director for Liberal Studies and Academic Director for the UW Collaborative Associates of Arts and Sciences program. For most of her professional career, Lisa has created large-scale ceramic installations where passive figures occupy dense arrangements as if centerpieces to improvised shrines. While her aesthetic and process have stayed the same, she has cropped down the work over the years, making it easier to transport, exhibit, and store. These assemblages, and all my recent artwork, encompass my imagined, decorative conceptions of home, gardens, peacefulness, playfulness, and celebration rooted in Mexican Folk Art and the Latin American Catholic shrines of her heritage and upbringing. An opening reception will be held on Friday, March 31, at 7 p.m. in the Rodman Center for the Arts. The exhibition will be on view through May 2, 2023.
