1964 Spring ’23 Class Letter
Greetings to my ’64 Classmates,
It is letter time once again. I am writing this in February and we have a beautiful display of wedding dresses and photos in our Stoneridge Creek Clubhouse. I contributed a wedding photo of me, JIM ’64, two of Jim’s cousins and my brother, Terry. I also included my wedding invitation. JEAN BISCHMANN ’64, a freshman suite-mate in Wright, was my maid of honor. In the fall letter I said that I applied for our twelve member-elected Resident Council. I was elected and am now the chair; my life is now a little busier.
I attended Ripon as a President’s Scholar, which paid my tuition. Ripon continues to offer a variety of need-based and non-need-based aid, as well as self-help aid such as work study and loans. For the 2021-2022 academic year, degree seeking enrolled Ripon students were awarded more than $37 million including state, federal, institutional and private aid. For the 2021-2022 year more than 780 students received aid, with some students receiving from more than one source. The Office of Financial Aid is committed to providing Ripon students with high-quality service and robust financial assistance.
I always like to encourage you to donate to Ripon’s annual fund. The Forever Ripon Campaign is also underway. I have made a five year pledge to this campaign to benefit Farr Hall. One of the people that I especially remember from Farr Hall is Dr. Jack Powers, Chair of the Chemistry Department. Classmate CAROL RUMMEL DINGMAN ’64 and I were the only female chemistry majors in our Class of ‘64. We have both continued to communicate with him and his wife Ruth over the years. I stayed at their house in Ripon between junior and senior year when I had a National Science Foundation grant for the summer. When Jim and I lived in New Jersey they stopped by for a visit. Dr. Powers died October 28, 2022, on his 93rd birthday. He is survived by his wife, four children, ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Throughout his adult life he was active in arts and historical societies. He was also an active watercolor and pencil artist.
I have one class note to share with you. If you have something that you would like to share in the future you can either send it to Ripon directly or to me.
FRED ROGUSKE ’64 of New London, Minnesota, died November 26, 2022. At Ripon, he majored in mathematics and economics. He participated in athletics and was a member of Phi Delta Theta. He received a Master’s Degree in business administration from Emory University. In the early part of his career, he worked for several companies including Green Giant. He then founded his own Tree N Turf Services in 1976 and founded or acquired multiple other businesses in Kandiyohi County. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and serving international missions throughout the world. He visited more than 80 countries, 70 of them with his wife. Survivors include one son and one daughter, and a sister, SAM ROGYSKE MACKLEM ’71. His wife, BARB HODSDON ROGUSKE ’65, died in 2022.
